Not Only Nine is a narrative RPG where the only fights are the bosses. Play as the soul of a cat, journeying to the center of the afterlife to save your human. An ancient, overpowered being aids you along the way as you uncover the nature of the Universe.

Gameplay

Inspired by the NPC mask quests from Majora’s Mask, the core gameplay revolves around helping characters and discovering interactions between them. There are no quest markers or menus telling you what to do. Pay attention to what characters say in order to progress.

Battles are turn-based, against bosses only. Balance dealing damage using your own health, and defend against incoming attacks through quick time events. Gear obtained from side quests can make you overpowered, or weaken you entirely.

The Afterlife

During your journey, you’ll meet endearing characters trying to understand what it means to exist. Make friends, help them become whole, and uncover the secrets hidden throughout the afterlife. Exploration is encouraged and rewarded.

For some reason, the afterlife feels like a high-fantasy adventure.

Soundtrack

Composed by Dan Johansen, the soundtrack combines retro RPG music with Celtic and Metal themes. Every track was composed with a story-first approach, each one carrying its own lore and narrative context. Dan even created his own language for the lyrics.
